There may be real ways to finish sooner: remove a low-value feature, settle a dependency, reduce approval delays or accept a narrower release. Each option has an owner and a consequence. A team cannot responsibly offer a faster date without explaining which option it assumes. Otherwise the earlier date becomes a commitment while the conditions required to meet it remain merely suggestions.
The boxes make the request's optimism measurable in a way the meeting language does not. Their weight stays constant even when the manager describes acceleration as an opportunity.
